Who we are
The Southside Community Council is a group of people who care about our community and want to make the area a better place to live. We have an important role in local democracy, representing the views of local people on the South Central Neighbourhood Partnership and conveying these views to the City of Edinburgh Council and other organisations.
Democracy at its closest to the people, the Community Council represents the views of the people of the Southside to higher levels of government

How we work
The Community Council is always keen to hear from local people, and want more people to get involved in our work. We usually meet once a month and, between meetings, organise local projects that help the community or improve the area. All Community Council meetings are open to members of the public and the press.
-
Community Councils are groups of people elected for 3 year periods. They were set up by statute through the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 “to ascertain, co-ordinate and express to the Local Authorities for its area and to public authorities the views of the community which it represents, in relation to matters for which those authorities are responsible.” All office bearers (members) in the Council are volunteers.
-
Community Councils are apolitical and cannot make any representations along political party lines.
