There is a proposal to close Edinburgh's Cleft (palette etc) Surgery programme, and concentrate these services in Glasgow. Edinburgh has an excellent surgeon, Felicity Mehendale, and the team achieves excellent outcomes - better than Glasgow. (See attached audit results). Many people are very concerned about this proposal. Ms Mehendale's expertise will be lost to the people of Scotland if this goes ahead. A petition with 6200 signatures was presented to the Parliament by a parent of one of the Edinburgh patients, and there was a debate in the Scottish Parliament following a Parliamentary Motion put forward by Miles Briggs MSP.
Let's hope the Scottish Government makes the right decision, and keeps the Edinburgh facility open.
