Southside Community Council

The Southside Community Council is a group of people who care about our community and want to make the area a better place to live. We have an important role in local democracy. We represent the views of local people on South Central Neighbourhood Partnership and convey these views to the City of Edinburgh Council and other organisations.

The Community Council is always keen to hear from local people, and want more people to get involved in our work. We usually meet once a month (see panel on the right of the Home page), and between meetings, organise local projects that help the community or improve the area. All Community Council meetings are open to members of the public and the press. Community Councils are apolitical and cannot make any representations along political party lines.

At its first meeting on 8th October 2015 the office bearers were elected. At a later meeting the Community Council decided to form subgroups to look at planning & licensing issues, environmental concerns, and communications. At the AGM in May 2016, new officebearers were elected. See the details under "Who We Are".

Community Councils are groups of people elected for 3 year periods. We are all volunteers. They were set up by statute through the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 “to ascertain, co-ordinate and express to the Local Authorities for its area and to public authorities the views of the community which it represents, in relation to matters for which those authorities are responsible.”
