Dumbiedykes Green Spaces

Dear Chair,

I reside in Dumbiedykes estate, where ongoing construction work is re-paving the uneven and cracked pavement. Unfortunately, the heavy machinery and construction materials have torn up the topsoil, leaving the green spaces between the fresh pavement in a sorry state.

Rather than issuing a complaint, I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to spruce up our communities' green spaces. I am a local organiser and would like to inform you of my team's interest in performing ecological work in the area. Namely, working to establish native wildflower meadows in place of the grass monoculture that currently dominates Dumbiedykes' green space. In addition, we would love to cooperate with Southside Community Council and see a green, brighter space for all in time for summer!

This would be in the interest of promoting the biodiversity of our local ecosystem, inviting bees and other helpful insects to pollinate the existing crops of our community allotments.

My team and I are offering the provision of the necessary labour to de-weed and sew the correct mixture of native wildflower species. We would isolate our work to the two steep grass banks which span the breadth of Dumbiedykes. These grass banks are not typically used by pedestrians owing to their steepness and the availability of stairs, and they get a lot of Sun - as such, these locations would be an optimal starting point.

I hope you consider our offer as a point of discussion in the upcoming SSC meeting,

Yours Faithfully,

Sam Hughes
